Il signor Diavolo (2019) follows the unsettling events surrounding a 14-year-old boy named Carlo, who is accused of murdering Emilio, a disabled man under the care of the local priest. The Italian Ministry of the Interior is tasked with unraveling the mystery behind the crime, as tensions rise between political institutions and the Church. The ruling Christian party is under pressure to safeguard the Church to maintain its influence. Carlo, the young suspect, speaks of the Devil and implicates a nun in inciting him to commit the murder. Carlo's belief is that Emilio was responsible for the death of his best friend, Paolino, two years prior. Driven by a desire to resurrect Paolino from the realm of the dead, Carlo fatally attacks Emilio, convinced that Emilio was an embodiment of evil.
