The civil war in Kosovo changed the lives of everyone living there. During that war, Maca lost her infant child. The old world ceased to exist. The homeland was lost. Eleven years later in Belgrade, Maca struggles to make a living. She works as a folk singer in a pub owned by Bole, her late child's godfather. Bole has done well in the new environment and turned into a successful entrepreneur. Maca loves nothing and no one. Her ex-husband Jovan, a war veteran, shut himself away in a monastery but now decides to leave the monastic life: he feels he has a calling to fulfil.
