The Train Goes East (1948) follows the journey of Lavrentev, a naval officer, and Zina, a gardener, who initially cross paths in the compartment of the Moscow-Vladivostok train and find themselves at odds. After being left behind, they embark on a shared journey across the country, encountering various individuals and gaining insights into the lives of the people they meet. Throughout their enforced trip, Lavrentev and Zina gradually develop feelings for each other, ultimately clarifying their relationship as they approach their destination in Vladivostok.
