A fantastic opportunity to discover experimental film on the big screen, from its avant garde beginnings in Europe after WW1 to some of the US filmmakers that it inspired who are still working today. The director offers a cheery, personal perspective, leaving out some names but including great interviews with Jonas Mekas, Ken Jacobs, Peter Kubelka, Robert Breer and many more. A rich collection of clips includes some films shown in their entirety such as Len Lye's early colour Rainbow Dance (1936) and Stan Brakhage's paint-on-film The Dante Quartet (1987).
