Detective Story (2007) follows the unlikely partnership of two men with the same first name, Raita, who live as neighbors but have vastly different professions. Raita Kazama, portrayed by Kazuya Nakayama, is a seasoned detective, while Raita Takashima, played by Kuroudo Maki, is an IT specialist. Despite their contrasting backgrounds, they find themselves entwined in a series of gruesome murders. The first victim, who had visited Kazama, is discovered the next day with her liver removed. Subsequently, another victim is found with a missing kidney, and Kazama's pen is left at the crime scene. The pattern continues with a third victim whose lungs are missing, and Kazama's lighter is found nearby. Desperate for answers, Kazama seeks the advice of a serial killer he apprehended 15 years ago, reminiscent of the dynamic in "The Silence of the Lambs." This leads him to manipulate Takashima into assisting him in solving the baffling and brutal cases.
