In Qatar, millions of guest workers from countries such as India, Kenya, Nepal and Ghana are working on the construction of the stadiums that will be the venues for the football World Cup in 2022. Living under miserable conditions and off a salary that hardly secures their survival, they toil night and day to prepare for a party they won't be invited to. A marketing department at FIFA has the idea to organise a football championship for the workers themselves. But before long, the workers have taken charge of this dubious initiative, and kick themselves enthusiastically into action. Nobody is left out in the gripping tournament, which is a well-deserved half-time interval for the hardworking players, and Adam Sobel's observant 'The Workers' Cup' is a captivating film about comradeship, solidarity and team spirit under gruelling conditions.
