Martins Venta fights among Latvian riflemen and participates in Christmas Battles where riflemen suffer heavy losses. After February revolution German forces advance and take control over Riga, but the riflemen stand against the Germans and with enthusiasm celebrate news about October revolution and go to lend hand and gun to emerging bolshevik regime. Twice during the film there is a disclaimer in orange rectangle that says: The historical events in the film are depicted in accordance with the official interpretation at the time of making the film.
