The Wife of Monte Cristo (1946) follows the thrilling tale of Edmund Dantes (Martin Kosleck), also known as The Count of Monte Cristo, as he embarks on a mission of vengeance in 1832. This time, he is accompanied by his countess wife, Haydee (Lenore Aubert), who steps into his role when he is incapacitated. Dantes, disguised as "The Avenger," seeks retribution against those who wronged him, leading to a confrontation with the corrupt Prefect of Police and his associates. The story unfolds with Dantes engaging in a skirmish with the Gendarmerie, which temporarily leaves him unable to continue his mission. Haydee then takes up the mantle of "The Avenger," continuing the fight for justice for the oppressed people of Paris.
