This dramatic psychological film is the story of Rosario (Nora Aunor), a simple barrio school teacher who suffered tragic and bitter experiences during the Japanese occupation of the Philippines. Engaged to Crispin (Rafael "Bembol" Roco), an anti-Japanese guerilla, she is raped by Masugi (Christoper De Leon), a Japanese Imperial Army officer. Bearing the enemy's child, she scorns his affection and tries to exact the ultimate revenge. But she later learns to love the Japanese officer and earns the wrath of the townspeople. The film deals with the inner desires and longings of the Filipino people during the most difficult period.
