She is not alone; she is accompanied by Mariano, a rugged Spanish man significantly older than her, eager to explore the tropical paradise where agriculture thrives year-round. In a bold move, Mariano sells his share of land in Burgo de Osma to support Juanita in paying off her mortgage in Santo Domingo, just as she was on the brink of losing her home.
