America (S)
Documentary that explores the intersection between race, history and visual narration through a series of twelve tapes in 35 mm, silent and in black and white that are exhibited chronologically from 1915 to 1926. 'America' was inspired by the recent discovery of the MoMA of the earliest recording that has survived the movie 'Lime Kiln Club Field Day' (1913), the oldest in which African-American actors appeared, with interracial cast and crew and directed to a black audience. In the first quarter of the s. XX, one hundred years ago, blacks and whites made films together with black actors and cheerful stories. Most of these tapes have been lost or destroyed. Each of these twelve films represents a year and some extraordinary things that happened in the United States.
