God Send Me a Man
This play is set in the living room of the main character Stacey (Constance Washington) It tells the story of young lady in her early-mid 20's, who is searching for a meaningful relationship with a male. It is difficult for her to find what she is looking for because of the way she carries herself. She is a materialistic woman, who dresses provocatively and who is perceived to be loose. She lives with her god-parents Nan Nan and Parain (Evangeline Gabriel-Young and Curtis Von). Her comedic god-parents and her judgmental cousin Jason, are constantly trying to get her to carry herself in a more lady like manner if she wants a man that will treat her right. They want her to live her life in a manner that is pleasing to God. Her friends, Tina and Kim (Kaye Shakir and Robin Givens) are also constantly trying to help her improve. Stacey doesn't ignore them, but it takes her awhile to take heed to their advice. After she goes through two more bad relationships Derrick and Louis (Vegas and Ash Davito), she decides that everyone is right and she needs to re –evaluate her life. She realizes that she hasn't been the best example to her teenage sister, Shae, who has been dealing with a serious problem that no one knew about. After a serious altercation with Louis, and the revelation of her sister's situation, she decides to go with her godparents and go to prayer service that is being held at her home. At prayer service Stacey accepts Christ into her life. Her cousin has a friend James who has shown interest in Stacey throughout the play but Stacey brushes him off because she doesn't think he is her type, since she believes he doesn't own a car. At prayer service Stacey stops treating him so bad and asks for forgiveness for her attitude. After some resistance, James forgives her and they have the beginning of a potential relationship. Stacey finally has a chance with someone who will treat her likes she wants to be treated, and the family is there to support each other through the other trials that are revealed in the story.
