Whisky (2004)

Whisky (2004) unfolds in Montevideo, Uruguay, where Jacobo, a 60-year-old man, resides alone following his mother's passing. His life revolves around a struggling sock factory and his devoted employee, Marta, who has been his right hand for two decades. Their relationship is one of mutual dependence, yet it remains largely professional and distant. Jacobo's younger brother, Herman, returns to Montevideo after a 20-year absence, not even attending their mother's funeral. A year after her death, Herman arrives for the matzeiva, the unveiling of the tombstone. Jacobo, feeling competitive, asks Marta to pose as his wife during Herman's visit. Marta sees this as a chance to break through Jacobo's emotional barriers. She moves into his apartment, which still bears signs of his mother's illness. Marta finds Herman to be more open and lively than Jacobo, and the two grow closer, sparking jealousy in Jacobo. Herman, burdened by guilt, offers Jacobo money to make amends, but Jacobo refuses, wanting only for Herman to leave. However, Herman extends his stay, and the trio spends a weekend at the beach, where farce, jealousy, and betrayal ensue.
