Lisa Rayborn (Natasha Henstridge) returns her home for mother's funeral, having spent the last 20 years in New York. She decides to stay in he country and help with the family farm, along the way adopting an unwanted dog which her father Clay takes an instant disliking to. Her brother Jim on the other hand is delighted to have a natural sheep herder in the family.
