Muvart
MUVART (Contemporary Art Movement of Mozambique), is an association of 11 young contemporary artists, mostly professors at the National School of Visual Arts in Mozambique, who through their work and actions represent a break with the traditional forms addressing the visual arts. They indeed offer new aesthetic that sometimes result from the use of new techniques and materials, such as recycled materials. This movement serves as an incentive and promotional Mozambican artists on the national scene as on the international stage, not as a mirror of a frozen Africa within its traditions but as a witness to the world today defined from its human resources, unique and contemporary. Some members of MUVART were invited to participate in the Fair of Contemporary Art in Lisbon in November 2004. Preparations for the fair were behind the making of this film. Supporting the preparation works for the exhibition allows us to discover the intimacy and everyday characters, and through their point of view, to take a look at the state of the art and cultural identity in Mozambique a society and a city that are constantly changing, growth and development.
