Saiyûki (TV Series) (2006) is a contemporary retelling of the classic Chinese tale "Journey to the West," spanning 11 episodes. The narrative revolves around the monk Sanzo Hoshi and her trio of disciples—including the mischievous monkey king Son Goku, the half-man, half-pig Cho Hakkai, and the water demon Sagojo—as they embark on a journey to Tenjiku (India) in pursuit of sacred Buddhist sutras that promise enlightenment.
