Limited Partnership (2014) chronicles the extraordinary 40-year journey of Tony and Richard, whose love story began in 1971 at an L.A. gay bar named The Closet. Their connection was instantaneous, leading to a marriage in 1975 that was one of the first highly publicized gay weddings in the United States. However, their happiness was challenged when they applied for a Green Card for Tony, an Australian citizen. The INS responded with a derogatory letter, denying Tony's resident status and labeling them as "faggots." In 1980, they took a groundbreaking step by filing the first lawsuit asking a U.S. court to recognize their gay marriage for immigration purposes. The documentary captures their enduring love and the battles they faced against marriage and immigration inequality.
