Deerskin (2019) follows a recently divorced man whose life takes a dark turn when he becomes fixated on a vintage designer deerskin jacket. This fixation leads him to deplete his savings and resort to criminal activities. The film is a dark comedy that delves into the themes of middle-aged masculinity and obsession. Academy Award winner Jean Dujardin portrays the protagonist, who, after purchasing the jacket, finds himself inexplicably drawn to it. Set in a tranquil French alpine village, he adopts the persona of an independent filmmaker and forms an unlikely friendship with a naive bartender and aspiring editor, played by César Award winner Adèle Haenel. Together, they embark on a film project that reveals the protagonist's peculiar new ambition.
