The Doctor Takes a Wife (1940) follows the story of June Cameron, an author who has penned a best-selling book advocating for the independence of women. After a series of mix-ups, the media mistakenly reports that June is married to Tim Sterling, a university professor she has recently encountered. June's publisher sees an opportunity to capitalize on the confusion and encourages her to write a new book about married life. Tim, hoping that the perceived marriage might boost his academic career, agrees to the ruse. However, their immediate dislike for each other, Tim's inflexibility, and his girlfriend Marilyn's potential interference threaten to derail the plan. The situation becomes increasingly complicated as each character pursues their own agenda, making it impossible for everyone to achieve their goals.
