One of the most stylistically weird films dedicated to WWI, Jean Choux's "Espionnage" combines quite straight plot with the all luxury of late silent poetics: swarm of portrait close-ups (with strong spirit of epsteinian photogeny), exquisite light, soft focus, sharp angles etc. Completely forgotten nowadays, this film is a real gem - for all admirers of Epstein, d'Ursel, l'Herbier etc.
