Maple and Juliana (1973) is a film inspired by traditional Slovak folktales, focusing on the tale of musicians who, with their enchanted violins, inadvertently cause chaos and devastation across the land. The story begins with a young girl who is magically transformed into a maple tree by her impulsive and enraged mother. Three impoverished traveling musicians stumble upon the tree and craft instruments from its wood. As they journey through the countryside, their cursed instruments bring about death and despair rather than joy. The musicians find themselves unable to discard the instruments until they return to the original site of the tree and bury them.
