This is a documentary made by Santiago Alvarez between 1973 / 1974 with material filmed in Buenos Aires, Cordoba and Mendoza as a cameraman for News ICAIC , travelling to Argentina with Cuban President Dorticós for the assumption of president Hector J. Cámpora on May 25th of 1973. Several political and activist argentine film directors , linked in some way to left trends, organized to record the events that between 1972 and 1973 gave way to elections and the return of Perón to Argentina. Among them , Campora´s assumption. But the local political process, the increased repression since 1974 to the military coup of 1976, unabled the processing of such material. This is why “Nuevo Tango” was never released. To the extent that much of this material filmed by local groups is lost, the testimonial value of this registry by Santiago Alvarez and his team is so significant. In fact , in recent years, more than an Argentine filmmaker who boarded the period, requested images of his film. Although journalism news prevails in this material; “Nuevo Tango” , the development referred by the director to achieve sustainability is also present, highlighting the editing of various elements. But in this case, the value of the film was updated as an historical document as consequence of the obstruction , by the subsequent political repressions, of the political process that these images condense (and the collective memory on it).
