Transcending the boundaries of technology and imagination, WAKING LIFE is a revolutionary breakthrough in film animation. Originally shot and edited as live action, the footage was then graphically “painted” frame by frame via computer by a team of more than 30 artists. The feeling created is that of an impressionist painting breathing with life. WAKING LIFE represents a unique union of the worlds of computer and film embodied in the talents of writer/director Richard Linklater (Slacker, Dazed and Confused, Before Sunrise) and computer animation savant Bob Sabiston, the creator of the unique “interpolated rotoscoping” software that gave birth to WAKING LIFE. In WAKING LIFE, Wiley Wiggins (Dazed and Confused) travels through a series of encounters and observations in a world that may or may not be reality. It is this surreal existence, flourishing with endless ideas and possibilities, that ultimately leads to the question, “Are we sleep-walking through our waking state or wake-walking through our dreams?”
