Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy (TV Miniseries) (1979) follows the story of George Smiley, who has been enjoying retirement for about a year when an unexpected visitor from his past, a former colleague from British Intelligence, appears at his doorstep. Smiley is then summoned to the residence of a high-ranking advisor to the Prime Minister, where he discovers compelling evidence suggesting that a high-ranking member of his former agency is a Russian mole. Tasked with identifying the traitor without official access to the Circus's files or raising any suspicions, Smiley relies on a small group of loyal friends, his keen deductive skills, and a veil of secrecy to expose the spy who orchestrated his own dismissal from the Circus.
