I Cannot Say ''Farewell'' (1982) tells the story of Lida, a modest and conventional young woman who develops feelings for Sergei, a charismatic and well-liked sportsman. After a night spent together, Sergei shows no interest in pursuing a romantic relationship with Lida and dismisses her. Tragedy strikes when Sergei is involved in an accident that results in paralysis. Despite Sergei's initial rejection, Lida's unwavering devotion, compassion, and profound love for him lead her to remain by his side. This film gained significant popularity during the USSR era and throughout the 1990s in Russia, where it explored the contrast between Western influences on female behavior and traditional Soviet values.
