Paolo Benvenuti released his 1996 movie one hundred years after the death of Domenico Tiburzi and he reconstructs the last days of the robber, captured and killed by police in October 1896 in a house near Capalbio, after the "King of the Maremma" (as he was called) had returned home after five years of "exile" in France. The film was shot in the very same places of the Maremma, which were the realm of the bandit, the beautiful woods of the Lamone Nature Reserve. This is a faithful reconstruction of the last days of Tiburzi’s life, the voice of the Carabinieri who are preparing to capture him, and the exploits of the bandit who was idolized by the local population.
