Blue Valentine

Dean (Ryan Gosling) and Cindy (Michelle Williams) have been together for six years, during which they have enjoyed passionate love, had a child and decided to marry. But suddenly their love relationship is on the brink of falling apart: Cindy has lost interest in the relationship and, in an attempt to rekindle the flame, Dean suggests a visit to a theme hotel where he selects the “future room” as the place to spend the night. From that future, which Dean and Cindy could hardly have sensed years back, the couple’s story will gradually unfold, from the initial moment they met to how love built up, reached its zenith and then started the inevitable deterioration. A story of carefully constructed characters that, through scenes from the past and the present, gradually reveals the mystery of why even the most intense and promising relationships can be dashed, in an emotional journey that makes it impossible for two people to go back to being as before.
