Addicted to Acting
The Ernst Busch Academy is one of Germany's best respected acting schools, and every year hundreds of would-be thespians apply in hopes that they'll be chosen for their rigorous program of study. Filmmaker Andres Veiel chose four students at random as they were accepted at the Busch Academy, and in the documentary Die Spielwuetigen (aka Addicted To Acting), he allows us to eavesdrop on them as they spend four years learning their craft and growing from callow youngsters to adults in search of their big break. Stephanie Stremler went through several rounds of rejection by the Busch Academy staff before being admitted, and she intends to make the most of the experience. Constanze Becker is a strong and confident young woman who impresses her teachers with her drive and commitment. Prodromos Antoniadis is a forceful and passionate actor who seems to identify with his roles a bit too much. And Karina Plachetka strives to work past the naturally timid nature her teachers believe is holding her back.
