A Shape of Things to Come (2020) is a frontier Western tale that chronicles the journey of Sundog, a self-sufficient individual who combines the roles of herbalist, hunter, and homesteader, living in harmony with the Sonoran Desert. As the presence of Border Patrol begins to infringe upon his hard-won independence, Sundog finds himself increasingly disturbed and compelled to push the limits of his survivalist lifestyle. The documentary features the first cinematic portrayal of ingesting a Sonoran toad’s hallucinogenic venom and includes a disquieting act of eco-terrorism. Through Sundog's experiences, the film provokes thought-provoking questions about humanity's connection to the natural world and to itself, all set against the backdrop of impending global environmental crisis.
